Marbella has been named the top European destination to visit in 2024! This prestigious honor was awarded by Maximilien Lejeune, CEO of European Best Destination (EBD), to Marbella’s Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz.
The recognition highlights Marbella’s dedication to quality and excellence in tourism, generating a promotional impact of over 12 million euros and reaching a global audience of 420 million travelers.
This ranking is based on the choices of people, not corporations. Over 1 million travelers from 172 countries helped pick the Best Destinations in Europe. They voted for the top city breaks, nature getaways, sunny vacations, and cultural and food experiences.
Past winners include popular tourist spots like Budapest, Hungary; Valletta, Malta; and Le Havre, France. These destinations showcase the beauty and richness of Europe and attract hundreds of thousands of tourists each year.
With 149,192 votes—a record since the competition’s inception—Marbella is described as a “sunny, five-star, natural, sporty, gastronomic destination with everything to please the most demanding travelers.”
It is the first time a Spanish destination has topped the list, beating out Monaco, Malta, and Geneva.
This follows another recent ranking that named Málaga the best city in the world for expats to live in, making 2024 a standout year for the Costa del Sol.
The ranking evaluated over 500 destinations based on factors like climate, culture, gastronomy, infrastructure and services, sustainable development, natural environment, sports and leisure options, and quality of life.
It also looked at indicators like social media popularity and the level of ‘smart tourism’ development.
